Essential Oils For Scars

Scars can be unsightly and difficult to bear, especially if they are in a particularly visible place. You may think that there is no way to get rid of them but the fact is, there are more ways to reduce the appearance of – or eliminate – scars today than at any time in the past and there are even essential oils that treat scars. If you have scars that you don’t like and you want to try and get rid of them, essential oils are definitely good treatments to start with. There are other treatments like surgery and medication, but essential oils are definitely the safer option.

The Problem of Scars

Why does everyone want to get rid of their scars so badly? The answer is simple: scars can make you look less attractive or draw attention to you that you don’t want. Depending upon where the scar is located, someone may want to get rid of it very badly. For example, scars that are located in areas that are normally covered by clothing are not as problematic as those on the face or hands or other exposed areas. However, even though scars may not be exposed people may still want to minimize their appearance.

The Essential Oils for Scars

Here are some of the most effective, tried-and-tested essential oils for getting rid of scars, along with some basic instructions on how to use them best. Each essential oil is a little bit different, but they are all great at treating scars and reducing their notice-ability.

Carrot Seed Oil

The first essential oil that we are going to discuss is carrot seed oil. The reason that carrot seed oil is so effective when it comes to scars is that it helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin tone and it helps restore elasticity. These things are enough to use carrot seed oil all by themselves, but there are other benefits as well; carrot seed oil can be used for other skin problems like eczema and psoriasis. You do want to keep in mind that you need to dilute your carrot seed oil in some sort of carrier oil. For example sweet almond, apricot kernel oil or olive oil will do the trick.

Cedarwood

Cedarwood is another essential oil that is good for scars. For one thing it is already good for the skin. It helps to get rid of the impurities that exist there which can sometimes contribute to scar appearance. It also helps to clear out skin tissues that are not regenerating as fast as they should be and pulls out the excess fat that exists between tissues which can also minimize the appearance of scars.

Helichrysum Essential Oil

Helichrysum essential oil is one of the best essential oils for scars that are currently available. People have had excellent results with this partially because it helps skin to regenerate. The downside to using helichrysum is that it is much more expensive than other essential oils. This means that you should probably try something else first and only use it when the other oils fail to fade the scars or remove them completely.

Helichrysum is also a great oil for improving scars on the face such as those from acne or injury. If you are going to use this essential oil for the face and you need to make sure that you added to a carrier oil and not use it by itself. This is also one of the more expensive types of essential oils but it is very effective.

Geranium

Geranium essential oil is really good for the skin. It actually gets down into the skin cells and pours new life into them. It also helps to reduce sebum production which causes oily skin and can even help with cosmetic skin problems like psoriasis. Of course, it is also a great way to reduce the appearance of scars. Geranium is an anti-inflammatory, astringent and has antiseptic properties as well. Geranium also has the distinction of being able to stimulate your body’s lymphatic system and has cicatrisant properties that uniquely make it suited for fading or removing scars.

Hyssop

Hyssop essential oil is another one that is often used for promoting the healing of wounds, cuts and bruises – and of course helping to heal scars and make them nearly invisible. Like geranium essential oil, it is cicatrisant, which means that it is very good at healing scars. But hyssop is also antispasmodic, astringent, carminative, antiseptic and anti-rheumatic.

Juniper

Juniper is another great essential oil that you can use for scars and for the skin, and in general, can’t live without. One of the great strengths of Juniper is that it removes toxins, cleansing the skin and helping with all sorts of skin problems. A lot of people use Juniper essential oil to combat skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis but it can help with all sorts of issues including getting rid of cellulite and scar removal. Like so many of the others on this list that are great for healing skin problems, Juniper is antibiotic, antibacterial and antiviral. It is often used in the treatment of infections and is an widely-used antiseptic during childbirth.

Rose

Rose essential oil is a favorite among those who are looking to improve the look and feel of their skin. This is especially true for those that suffer from aging skin and who want to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles that often come with getting older. Rose essential oil actually helps to improve skin by providing nutrients to the skin needs as well as increasing circulation by toning the capillaries that blood flows through. Rose essential oil restores skin to its former elasticity and it can significantly reduce or even eliminate, in some cases, the appearance of scars.

Neroli

Orange Blossom essential oil, which actually has the real name of neroli, is another great essential oil for treating aging skin. The fine lines and wrinkles can be heavily reduced by using this is a topical treatment, and it is also a very effective reduction tool when it comes to stretch marks and scars. With larger scars, they may not be eliminated completely but neroli actually will reduce their appearance and minimize them.

Lavender

You can use lavender on the skin and you don’t really need to dilute it. In fact, lavender is one of the essential oils that you can use on children without using a carrier oil. You only want to use a little bit however. It is a great treatment for acne and also minimizes the appearance of scars and treats many other skin conditions.

Lavender seems to be used for just about everything but that is also the case with scars and other skin problems that you are trying to correct. Lavender is an anti-inflammatory and it is really great if you can use it directly after an injury is happened to prevent scar tissue from forming. If that’s not possible, it does help with reducing the appearance of scars.

Patchouli

Patchouli is an essential oil that helps to restore skin. It regenerates skin cells which is one of the main strengths that it has when it comes to scar removal and healing. It is also an anti-inflammatory and it shares the scar fighting attribute of being a cicatristant along with some of the other remedies listed here. Patchouli essential oil is effective for both young and old skin and renews the look and feel of it with regular use.

Frankincense

Frankincense is not only good at healing scars but it actually improves skin tone which can make skin look revitalized and brand-new. For those worried about fine lines and wrinkles, frankincense also helps to fill in those lines and soften wrinkles and it also helps to balance the body’s production of sebum to prevent skin that is too oily. Frankincense especially is good for scars because it stimulates the production of skin cells which can cover scar tissue.

Myrrh

Myrrh is another useful essential oil when it comes to treating skin conditions. Often people use myrrh to heal lips that have become chapped or cracked. But myrrh also treats peeling and cracking of skin other than lips and is a good treatment for eczema and psoriasis as well as treating stretch marks, scar tissue and rashes. For older looking skin, it is another fine reducer of wrinkles and helps skin regenerate.
